As you can see, these lures were REALLY effective last year!! I really need to slap a new coat of paint on these babies...they have seen better days!!! But a picture is worth a thousand words, and these lures were ALL BRAND NEW when I started fishing on my Pike trip last May!!!
The next lure I will be keeping in my tackle box is the generic from Cabelas. In addition, I will need to paint a few generic colored RED-EYES to take along. Last year, I had three fish on three different lures and bad steel leaders led to the loss of ALL of them!!! I, personally, think that I got a few bad packages...but it might be nice to hear a few suggestions for better leaders...LOL :)

The next thing I am going to purchase are a few of these #6 Blue Fox Vibrax in Gold/Bleeding Red. I have a huge collection of these from our Salmon Fishing trip a couple of years ago, but none in this color. I received an email from a reader a few months ago (Hi MIKE!!), and he suggested this lure. Then I checked Dunlop's site, and they were listed as the #1 on there, as well. Can't beat Mike's statistics he included in his email...so I am going to give them a try!!!

Of course...I cannot go without my Johnson's Silver Minnow. This particular one I have painted the generic colors...I am still trying to figure out how to paint one orange hammered color. I, also, always take a few silver colored ones, too!!!! This weedless lure is great for maneuvering through the weeds. As you can see in the picture below...that little bar makes this lure super awesome in the weeds!!! I might just say WEEDS one more time....WEEEEEEDS!!! LOL...I think this rain/sludge/snow is making me giddy... ;)

In addition to all of these lures, I will be throwing in a few others as well. My email friend, Mike, said to throw in some lipless Rat-L Traps and that the Pike were really hitting the color PINK. They must know I am coming eh???? LOL...the Dunlop's website says to make sure you bring along some Mepps. I have a few of those in my box already!!!
My super awesome bloggy friend Joe, over at www.wolfwaters.blogspot.com, sent me a lure from Lucky Craft that I am super excited to try out. So that will be going along, as well!!! Not to mention, a few more jigs to keep me busy with the walleye!!!
Oh Man...I just cannot wait for this trip!!! I am seriously getting super excited just thinking about it...As a matter of fact, I think tonight is the perfect night to spool up my reels and re-organize my tackle box. This way...I will be perfectly ready for a great trip to CABELA'S THIS WEEKEND!!!
So please...Cabela's...will you PLEASE put out some extra orange hammers for me??? I promise I will buy them all...LOL ")
Happy Fishing ~

OK, if you re-read your blog post, you will see the NUMBER ONE item that A) you were missing LY, and B) you need. And, if you re-read my pike posts, you know I SWEAR by them. What are they???
ReplyDelete12", 60# or 75# Terminator Titanium leaders. You will put one on at the beginning of the trip, never change, and at the end of the trip it will look, feel, and function just like new. I don't care if you catch 500 pike on it. Get the heavier ones that I recommended - the snap swivels are easier to use than the ones on the lighter weight leaders. . They aren't cheap, but they're worth every penny.
LOL Wolfy I should know this!!! I am sorry that I don't...!!! I have re-read your pike posts...
ReplyDeleteGive me a hint...LOL ;)
You should NEVER lose a lure while pike fishing. Use those Terminator Titanium Leaders - I'll check through my stuff and see if I have any extra laying around.
