New Years Eve...

has arrived!! Tomorrow is the beginning of a new year...fresh starts and new goals, and BOY...do I have plenty!!
I am traveling out to Sidney, Nebraska next week. I am really looking forward to going even though it is only for one night! I am sure some of you know that Sidney is the home of the very first Cabela's Store and is where the headquarters is located. I remember my very first trip to Cabela's, and it was to the one in Sidney. I was completely hooked that first trip, and now I am excited to go back for a little visit. Wandering around and looking at all the interesting and awesome lures, baits, and gear is exactly the relaxing evening I need :)
Along with new promises, hopes, and goals, the new year brings a fresh new season of fishing and outdoor shows, and I just adore them all!!! The All Canada Show will be coming to Omaha in February, and I am already getting excited for it. Another show that is fun to attend is The Safari Club Show. I am not a hunter, but I really like the show that this organization puts on. Plus, each show offers beer for sale which makes any time a funner time...LOL ;)
I will definitely be covering each and every show I attend here on "From The Fisherbabe", and I might even do a few video blogs. It would be very fun and very interesting to interview a couple of the lodge and camp owners at each show. They always have something interesting to tell you about fishing!!! I am so excited already!!!
I hope you all have a great, fun evening tonight, but please be very careful and safe. I know, as well as anyone, that beer makes for a super fun time...but PLEASE do not drink and drive. Remember to assign a designated driver before the night begins and allow only that person to control the keys. If you have no designated driver, please call a taxi to drive you safely home. Also remember that, although you may be responsible, safe and sober tonight, there may be someone else on the road who is not. Watch out for others who may not cherish their lives quite as much as we all cherish yours.
Happy New Year ~

Out With The Old & In With The New For 2010...

and as you can see...I have RE-DESIGNED my blog!!!! You know, I really think that 2010 is the year to take www.fisherbabe.com to the next level, and what better way to do that then REVAMP the whole site!!!
I tried very hard to maintain a balance between a design that would flaunt my FABULOUS girly passion for fishing and a design that wouldn't embarrass my male readers if they happen to be reading my blog at work...LOL :) I hope you all love it as much as I do.
As I said before, when I started my blog, I had no idea that it would be visited as frequently as it has been lately. I am not sure if you all noticed, but "From The Fisherbabe" has reached 18,000 views!!!
So here it is...my new blog for the new year!! Hopefully this year brings lots of new and exciting adventures for all of us!!!

Another Fabulous Year...

has come and gone, but what an incredible year it has been. Seriously...one of my best ever!!! Let's review shall we????
First of all, "From The Fisherbabe" was born in February of this marvelous year. Yep, folks...that's right!! It has only been 10 short, FABULOUS months since I began blogging my little fishing heart out right here on http://www.fisherbabe.com/. I cannot believe that, in just a few short months, I have met some of the friendliest, kindest, loveliest people I will ever hope to meet in my life. Seriously...you guys are FANTASTIC. I have learned so much from each and every one of you and hope that in the new year, I get to know each of you a little bit more!!!
You know...when I started this blog, I was a bit anxious about how it would go over...and about how I would be received by fishermen and fisherwomen in the industry. I mean, I do not tournament fish...which is usually the calling card of a "professional fisherman or fisherwoman." I was afraid that, because I did not fish for bass regularly and preferred the wilderness of Canada hunting for Northern Pike, Lakers, and Walleyes, no one would take me seriously. What a silly notion that was!!!!
You guys have been amazing...teaching me something lovely with every comment and with every email and most importantly, teaching me that fishing is an industry of acceptance and flexibility. It is a sport of your making with room for all types of regular folks and all types of "professionals." I have learned that, although there are still a few "good old boys (and girls)" who refuse to accept that a girl like me can outfish them (or thier hubbys) blindfolded with an arm tied behind my back and be a credible fishing source, 99.99999% of the industry is SERIOUSLY FABULOUS!!!! You all have given me the incredible gift of that realization...thank you all so much for that precious gift!!!
This blog is one of the happiest parts of my life. Sharing my passion for the sport of fishing is something I look forward to everyday. I hope that you will all keep coming back in the new year!!!
Let's see...what else ~ Oh YEAH!!! I broke all of my freshwater records this year. I mean...that within itself is an amazing feat. I caught 11 Master Angler sized fish in 6 days in Manitoba in May/June 2009. My biggest measured in at 43.5...and I caught 3 that size!!! The biggest of the 3 weighed 19 pounds, so I still have goals for 2010 LOL :)!! I have to break that 20 pound mark, for sure. Oh...and a 52 incher would be FABULOUS!!!
I also went Lake Trout fishing in September at MacKay Lake up in Northwest Territories, Canada, and broke the 20 pound freshwater barrier with a 25 pound Lake Trout. I also reeled in a 23 pounder, a couple of 18 pounders, and countless other teen sized Lakers. This trip also provided me with my first glimpse of the Northern Lights (or the Aurora Borealis in scientific speak). They were...simply amazing!! :)
Other great things that happened this year include obtaining some fabulous new reels, a fabulous new plano rod case, learning to crochet, taking a cruise to Mexico, turning 30-1, and venturing into video blogging (which I fully intend to do more of in 2010)!!!
So, as you can all see, 2009 was pretty great to me. Seriously great!!! I hold so much hope for 2010 to be even more fabulous, if that is possible!!! I am planning some great things for the blog...a redesign is in the works...and I really want to kick www.fisherbabe.com up to the next level...whatever that means LOL :)
I really hope all of you had a great 2009, as well!! Please comment and tell me some great stuff that happened to you in 2009!!!
Happy Fishing in 2010 ~

Oh...The Weather Outside Is Frightful...

and yes, the fire inside is delightful...but I am a little bummed about this horrible weather we are having a mere hours before the BIG DAY!!! The Fisherbabe's Guide To A FISH-TASTIC Holiday Season...

Okay Okay...so I have spent the last hour trying to figure out what is wrong with blogger that it won't let me upload my STOCKING STUFFERS video. I have just gotten so frustrated that I give up...LOL :) So back to the normal old grind of writing a post...LOL!!! Darn...my video was good too...LOL :)
So anyways...my little sock is full of super great ideas for any fishergirl or fisherboy on your list...and all of these things fit right into a stocking!!! AND...at the end of this post, there is a special little suprise just waiting!!!
Sooooooo...what is in my stocking??? Let's see...
First, I have Berkely Line Clippers. Now these are great for a multitude of little odd jobs when fishing...they cut your line, they make switching lures faster, ect. PLUS, they have a strap that goes around your neck to ensure that they are always easily accessible when needed. They are from Berkley, a trusted brand that is made to last.

They are also pretty cheap at only 2 bucks!!!

Second, I have PLANO POCKET STOWAWAY BOXES.

Now, everyone knows how much I LOVE PLANO!!! This is a company that is dependable and trustworthy. Their products are tough and durable, and I always have a couple of these little boxes in my tackle box. They fit right down into the bottom of most hip/roof boxes and into the top of most large tray boxes. They also easily fit into your pocket (or a stocking)!!!
In my stocking, I have a double sided small stowaway and a six compartment pocket stowaway...
They are inexpensive stocking stuffers that run around 2-3 dollars each. They fit perfectly inside any stocking and are great for flies and tiny lures. I would be incredibly happy to find Plano anything stuffed into my stocking on Christmas morning!!! (Hint Hint Santa!!)
The third super cool item in my stocking is a Polaroid disposable camera with 2x ZOOM.

Now, I love this because it allows you to take great pictures with a zoom without having to get your fancy camera wet and nasty...enough said!!

The fourth item on my list are

BODY WARMERS...I LOVE THESE THINGS!!! I never travel to Canada without them. We all know that it can get cool on the water at any time during the year...the winds on the water can be brutal. These little GENIUS inventions can slip right into your gloves or right into your boots to keep your fingers and toesies completely warm and cozy. My sister-in-law always manages to mooch a few off me...she loves them, too!!! They also come in BODY size for those cold Canadian nights in the bunks!!

One last great idea for a stocking is CHAPSTICK.

I love my chapsticks, and I always keep a variety of them in my tacklebox in case I forget mine on the water. They come in a variety of flavors and for a dollar a tube...you can't beat the price. They are also a little unexpected treat to find in a stocking!!! Plus they can act as a protectant in case your forget your SPF!!!

Now for the suprise!!! I am giving away to one lucky reader everything that I have mentioned on this post!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! To enter, just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you asked Santa for this year!! I will choose the winner at random by using http://www.random.org/ to chose a number!!

The contest runs until 5:00 CST on Christmas Eve so you have a week!!! I totally love my Christmas Stocking and wanted to share it with one of you...regardless of whether you are naughty or nice ;) Have Fun!!!

Remember you can be entered twice by visiting http://www.ultimatefishingdirectory.com/blog/2009/12/the-fisherbabes-guide-to-a-fish-tastic-holiday-season/ and leaving a comment there as well as here!!!

Okay Guys...TOTALLY LISTEN UP...

because I have some great ideas for all the Fisherbabe's in your life (or the babes you want to be fishin with you)!!! Tonight, I did A LOT of searching for some of my favorite items for the holidays this year for all of us hot a** fishin' babes...AND GUESS WHAT I FOUND...BOOTS for all the ladies on your lists this holiday season...and if you STILL need a gift, give some of these a try!!!
You may be asking...what in the world is she talking about...boots? But all of us serious fishing people know how important it is to keep your feet warm and dry while fishing...and if you understand me, at all, you also know that its important for me to feel feminine and sexy while fishing!! These boots are the best of both worlds...
1. UGGS...ok yeah...I know that most guys don't think these boots are sexy. But just think of this scenario...you are on the lake, in your boat, and your girl is casting a line up at the front...and she's wearing your favorite jeans...you know the ones ;) She is looking pretty hot in her outdoor gear and super sexy sunglasses and these sexy boots are keeping her sexy little feet warm...
or these...

or these...

Any of these boots are amazing and DO NOT look like the regular Ugg boots that all men love to hate...even tho I love mine and feel pretty sexy in them anyways ;) They also have the wool linings in every one of them that really keep your feet warm on those lovely wintery days...AND most importantly, every single pair is WATERPROOF!!!! I think these boots would look pretty hot on my next trip to Canada...(HINT HINT SANNNNNTA)!!!

2. Another awesome pair of boots that I am loving this season are from SOREL. They also come with an amazing faux fur lining and look AMAZING...both outdoorsy and totally fashionista at the same time PLUS they are again totally waterproof...and in case you don't know, SOREL is an amazing brand for keeping your feet warm, comfortable, AND dry during those wintery months of fishing...definitely a great gift for the sexy fisherbabe in your life...

I totally LOVE every pair of boots I have listed here...and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to receive any of them on this list. For me footwear is one of the most crucial parts of my fishing attire when I am up in Canada. The boot you choose has to keep those feet warm and dry and comfortable all while providing a good, solid grip on the surface of the boat. It helps if they are higher (at least above the ankle) to ensure that if it rains or your feet do get wet (you know...bailing out the boat and that kindof crap...LOL) the insides of your shoes stay nice and dry. I mean...come on...I have seen the men in my group putting plastic baggies in their boots after a wet day, and I would be seriously PISSED off if that happened to me...as in throwing my boots at the person that sold them to me...LOL!! I admit...I can be a weanie when it comes to my feet...so I make SURE that I take care of them and they do not become a cold, wet problem during my trips.

These are brands I trust...AND they are functional and pretty. It is not often you get a combo of those two attributes in outdoor gear...believe me...I have looked!!! Functional AND pretty is seriously hard to find...but here they are in some amazing pairs of boots...just waiting for your little snowbunny to slip on!!!

Have fun this Christmas...and remember the reason for the season...whatever that means for you and yours!!!! Much Holiday Love to you all!!!!

Happy Holidays ~

Merry Christmas Charlie Brown...

Ahhhhhh...'tis the season to be merry and all that jazz...LOL :) This is to be just a short, jolly little post as I only have two simple questions for you all to answer!!! What are you asking Santa for this year, and have you been nice enough (or naughty enough) to receive it??????? I will let you in on my final holiday selections soon and give you guys a few ideas for some stocking stuffers for the whole family!!! Hope your season is staying warm and bright!! Tonight...Tonight...

it all begins tonight....YES, I am singing, and I am singing for a couple of different reasons!!!! First of all, WINTER STORM TONIGHT...YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Now I know that I may be the only person that sings over a winter storm, but all I can think of are snowmen, snow angels, and cuddly blankets by the fireplace!!!! PLUS, my dog hops through the snow like a short, insane deer when there is snow on the ground. I ALWAYS look forward to THAT!!!
Secondly, and most important, the first big step in the BIG NEWS is happening this evening. Now...nothing is set in stone and lots depends on my little appointment tonight and all that jazz. But I am hopeful that soon this fisherbabe will be able to share something very cool with you guys!!!
Now for something serious...I just wanted to say thanks to all my readers for your support over the last year and for helping me get my little bloggy blog on the road to something great! I love you guys like family, and it is important for you to know how much you all mean to me. I love that we share a common passion for the outdoors. Thanks to you all for getting to know me, accepting me as I am, and coming back everyday for more!!!
I am STOKED about tonight...everything is set up, everything is ready to go...now my only question is...what should I wear and how should I fix my hair...LOL ;)
Happy SNOW DAY ~

And Now...Back To The Good Stuff!!

It has been a while since I really posted any in depth information on fishing. So, I thought today was the perfect time to get back to what really matters...MONSTER FISH!!! Everyone knows that I love Canadian fishing. I take trips up to Canada multiple times a year to search out that trophy fish that will make my life complete. The waters of Canada are an extraordinary resource for anglers looking for a wild, natural setting while catching lots of amazing fish. It never ceases to amaze me the sheer quantity of fish I catch north of the border.
Because the holiday season is upon us, and because its a season full of wishful thinking and candy cane dreams, I decided today was the perfect day to share a couple of my dream vacation spots. There are a couple of different camps that I have not had the good fortune to visit as of yet. I hope that I get the opportunity in the future, though, because these places TOTALLY ROCK OUT!!
All of the lodges listed in this post are in Manitoba. The reason I love to choose camps in Manitoba is because of the Master Angler Program. This program is amazing and rewards anglers for their dedication to the sport of fishing. I have never been so excited in my life as I was the day I received my first Master Angler certificate and badge in the mail. They have a variety of different award levels, and all consist of a different level of skill and technique to master. I am on the hunt for the Diamond Badge, myself. It's a tough task to accomplish...but someone's got to do it...LOL :)
Now on to the camps...My first dream vaca is none other than Nueltin Lake Lodge. This lodge is world reknown for being one of THE best locations to catch MONSTERS!! The lodge offers a host of ammenities including (and in my opinion THE most important) HOT SHOWERS!!!! Plus, the showers and toilets are in the cabins so you don't even have to walk outside in the freezing cold and chance getting eaten by a bear!!! It's the small things, really!! Anyways, Nueltin offers 10 fully modern cabins with fireplaces, a main lodge, 3 outpost camps, and the opportunity to catch amazing Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Arctic Char, and Whitefish. The price range is a little on the more expensive side with a 5 day trip costing $3895 per person and a 9 day trip costing $4995 per person...but just look what you get for that price. The shower alone is worth it...LOL :)
The second lodge on my list is Ganglers North Seal River Lodge. I like Ganglers. Ganglers has a facebook page, and we are friends. I check up on it all the time to make sure they aren't handing out free trips. They never do...LOL :) Ganglers offers 8 deluxe cabins WITH BATH FACILITIES, a main lodge, 7 outpost camps, and the opportunity to catch Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Walleye, Arctic Grayling, and Whitefish. As you can see, there are quite a few different species offered up by this camp. The opening day for them next year is June 4th, and they still have slots available. The cost of this lodge is similiar to Nueltin costing $4295 per person for a 7 day trip, $4095 per person for a 5 day trip, and $3895 per person for a 4 day trip. If I ever get to go, Ima go with the 7 day...I just do not think 4-5 days would be enough for me on this great lake!
The next dream spot is Edmund Lake Lodge. Now...I met Greg Dick the owner/director of this camp at the All Canada Show last year in Omaha. He was soooo super nice and chatted with us for quite a long time about Canadian fishing. I could quickly see that this camp would offer a very hospitable and welcoming vacation enviroment and immediately put it on my list. This lodge offers 5 modern cabins WITH SHOWERS and an outpost camp at Kistigan Lake. Now, I am seriously itching to get my lure in the water at Kistigan. There has been some major monsters pulled out of that Lake. These waters offer Northern Pike and Walleye...and you all know how adorable I think those little Canadian walleye are!! The pricing on this lodge is INSANELY reasonable coming in at $1800 per person for a 4 day trip to the main lodge and $2400 per person for an 8 day trip to the main lodge. Even more exciting is the price for the outpost at Kistigan. The price for a 7 day trip to this camp is only $1800 per person. Whew...I might have to add that to my Santa List :)
Another great lodge that takes me to happy, dreamy place is Webbers Lodge - North Knife Lake Lodge. This outfit is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. They offer so many different accomodations that it would take me a paragraph to tell you all of them. I will mention that they DO have showers and they offer specialty packages like Family Rates and a special Couples Retreat (with...OMG...SPA TREATMENTS!!). The types of fish caught here are Walleye, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Whitefish, Brook Trout, and Arctic Grayling. In all honesty, the rates for this lodge are what make it a "dream vacation" for this Fisherbabe. The rates come in at $3995 per person for 4 days, $4495 per person for 5 days and the outposts start at $1995 per person for 7 days. However, I would consider paying the money to visit this lake. It would truly be a once in a lifetime fishing experience.
As you can see, there are quite a few great lodges here on my little wish list. I am hoping that someday I will get to visit each one and catch a monster from them all. I suppose dreams are what make the world go 'round :)
If you want more information about any of the lodges mentioned above, here are some links that may be helpful in your search:
All of the lodges have great, informative websites that give you loads of information and pictures of all the great things that await...and if you have any trouble at all navigating through them, just email me. By now I am an expert on all of these awesome websites because I spend most of my day staring at all the pictures of all the amazing fish :)
Ooooooooo...I can't wait until May :)
Happy Dreaming ~

Mean People Suck...

and I'll admit that I don't like them one bit. Just a while ago, I logged into my blog like normal...happy as a clam with the exciting events of late. However, what wasn't normal was checking my unmoderated comments to find a really nasty, just plain mean-spirited rant. Of course, although the person talked tough...they weren't brave enough to leave a name...LOL.
This is the first comment of the negative kind that I have received since starting this blog, and although it really was too sad to upset me, the words, along with other recent events, got me thinking. The person who left the comment obviously does not like me. Whoever she is...and yes I know it is a SHE because I could tell by the words that were used...does not think that it is appropriate to be a woman who loves the outdoors AND a woman who is not afraid to show her feminine, sexy side. Or perhaps she is threatened by my refusal to play by the old rules of what a woman simply cannot be.
When I began this blog, I did so because I truly loved the sport of fishing. I loved everything that it represented, everything that it entailed, and all of the blessings that being involved in the sport allowed me to find. I returned from my first Canadian fishing trip with a renewed passion for the sport of fishing in general and specifically for Canadian fishing. I wanted to YELL to the world that fishing was a SUPER FABULOUS time to be had by all. Most of all, I wanted more women to see that you could be a part of nature, be an expert on a subject that was traditionally a men's only sport, and be feminine, fun, and sexy all at the same time.
Today, I continue to promote that message on this blog, and in my other fishing endeavors, and it is NOT a message that I am ashamed of. As a matter of fact, it is a message that I absolutely REFUSE to quit promoting. I refuse to succumb to the age old stereotype that a woman must either be intelligent and credible OR beautiful and sexy and that a woman absolutely CANNOT possess all of those characteristics simultaneously. It is a ridiculously old misconception that I do not agree with, and I will continue fighting to rid the world of this tired, judgmental way of thinking regardless of how much backlash or how many harsh comments I receive.
As The Fisherbabe, as an Attorney At Law, and as a woman, I am living proof that a person can be absolutely anything that he OR she desires to be. I am living proof that a woman can feel smart and sexy at the same time...that she can embrace her femininity and be provocative while being intelligent and WITHOUT being immediately discredited or dismissed due to possessing those qualities. I am laying it out on the line right here, and I am saying that I WILL NOT stop being who I am because it threatens to overturn an outdated regime that so many unfortunate souls still sadly follow...I will not stop being feminine and girly and sexy, and I will not stop being intelligent, well spoken, and CREDIBLE...and I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT STOP DOING ALL OF THOSE THINGS ALL AT THE SAME DAMN TIME!!
I am not afraid to be called sexy. As a matter of fact, I kind of like it. I am also not afraid to touch a fish. But most important of all, I am not afraid to be sexy WHILE touching a fish. Times they are a'changin folks...and I think it is high time people notice.
I am The Fisherbabe...and I am smart, sexy, fun, and fiesty. Watch out world 'cause I'm not planning on changing anytime soon.
Now that I've gotten that heavy subject off my (in the words of my hater) fat, cake eating shoulders (LOL), tomorrow I will be back to my sassy old self. Today was just...well...one of those days...LOL :) I am sure you all know the kind :) Here's to hoping you all have a FABULOUS night...and here's to me having one too!!! :)
Happy Fishing ~
