Just Call Me Susie "The Fisherbabe" Homemaker...

'cause I can now crochet. Okay...so I am just learning but right now, I am watching The Santa Clause on Disney, getting lots of puppy kisses, practicing the single crochet stitch, and generally relaxing on my couch. I am pretty excited about this new little hobby and my only question is...
Who wants a crocheted fishing towel for Christmas this year...or how about a crocheted reel cover? LOL...hope you all had a FABULOUS weekend!!!!

BLACK FRIDAY...

really gives off an air of evil, doesn't it? My mother and I were up at 4AM this morning to go "day after Thanksgiving day" shopping. We decided that the reason they call it black friday is because people are freaking insane for $5.00 Barbie Dolls. She and I go every single year, but the crowds of people never cease to amaze us.
I, for one, bought way more and spent way more than I should have...but it seems that is what the holiday season has come to in recent years. Seems to me that the most important question to most children, and adults for that matter, is "what did you BUY me and how MUCH did it cost?"
Personally, I think teaching your children (or an adult friend) to fish or hunt is a great cure for bad cases of greed that seem to hover around the earth during the holiday season. We really forget to be thankful for the most wonderful things in life!!
Fishing and hunting can give a person a sense of the natural wonder that most definitely still exists in the world. When I visit a Canadian lake for a fishing trip and I step out of my boat to sit down for a shore lunch, I am completely humbled by the fact that no other person in the world may have set foot on that piece of land. It makes me joyful that my life is so blessed and that I am grounded enough to feel so small at that moment.
The feelings of greed seem to melt away when you sit on a lake (or in a stand) and realize that it doesn't really matter if you own the latest tv or have the best house on the block. Those normal feelings of daily stresses that feel so weighty, greed, and frenzy melt away when you realize that some things will never change and that the lake will always welcome you with open arms.
A lake does not judge and will only listen. It will not ask questions and the only advice it will offer is a beautiful catch that always seems to help you regain the knowledge of what is really important in your life. Reservations (and makeup) are not needed...nor are they relevant to success. The lake prefers that you come as you are...it's one of the only places on earth that truly doesn't care your gender or the color of your skin. The lake does not discriminate...on the lake, we are all just human. We are all pursuing the same goal...we all have something in common.
It's just you against the fish, and there is nothing better in the world that feeling a tug on your line. I, today, am so thankful that I am so blessed and that I have had the opportunity to witness the most beautiful places in the world. I, for one, feel so very blessed that the lake is my friend and that I know that it is a friend that will never let me down.
Much love to you all and remember to be thankful this holiday season for the things that are truly important.
Happy Blessings ~

My Year In Pictures and a Fun Question!!!

My year was pretty amazing if I do say so myself...I mean, how often does a person break two personal fishing bests and get to go on multiple Canadian adventures in only ONE year!!! Crazy!!!
Today, the FisherMommy is coming into town for TURKEY DAY, and I am so excited. She lives down in Southern Arkansas (where I am originally from...that's right...I'm a Southern Belle) and that is 12 whole hours from her loving Fisherbabe Daughter. What a drive...WHEW!!!
Anyways...as I was getting ready for her arrival, I came across our little fishing albums from this year. Taking Wolfy's advice from a few weeks back, I started flipping through to refresh my memory on those major catches and to remind myself what an incredibly lucky Fisherbabe I really am.
So..today...in honor of a really FABULOUS year of FISHING, I have posted a few of my favorite pictures from the year...Also, I wanted to ask you all a silly, fun question, and I really hope I get lots of answers.
"If you could fish with any famous fishing personality in the world, who would you chose to fish with and why?"
I think I would have to say that mine would be "Bob Izumi." I mean you all know how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Canada and its amazing fishing opportunities...so I cannot imagine the great stuff that I could learn from him by fishing with him even just for an hour!!! PLUS...his show (Bob Izumi's Real Fishing on WFN) is amazing and he ALWAYS seems to get the big fish (and if thats editing then maybe I should fish with his Cameraman...LOL). Somehow, though, I don't think it is since Mr. Izumi is the leader in skill and knowledge of Canadian Fisheries. Bob would definitely be my choice :)
Another person I would love to fish with is Italo Labignan from WFN's Canadian Sportfishing. Talk about a dream....fishing all of Canada for the largest of the greatest fish the country has to offer. I can't think of one thing better in the world...
I would settle for just a beer and story exchange with any of these guys!!! I would even pay!! :)
So leave me a comment and tell me who you would want to go out in a boat with for a day...or even an hour :) Have a great day and...

The Best Hat EVER...

As you can all see from the picture above...I GOT MY NEW HAT!!!! Last night at Cabela's was great...free beer and free chicken chili was icing on the cake. When I got to Cabela's at around 7:30, I immediately headed over to the hats to check them out. I found my "Mad Bomber" hat right away and tried it on.
I fell in love at first site with the look of the hat...but the super important stuff is that this hat is lined with rabbit fur which is a great natural insolator from the cold and wind. It has ear flaps that hang down really long over your ears so that those delicate parts of the body are very protected which is something that you don't often get with normal stocking caps. The outer shell of the hat is made from nylon which adds an extra layer of protection from the harsh elements. The inside crown of the hat is made from a quilted lining which ensures that heat will not escape from the top of the head.
The hat itself comes in a variety of colors including black (which is shown in the above photo), khaki, olive, pewter, and white. It also comes in camo and hunters orange and in a couple of other different materials, as well. The hat itself retails for 23.99 at Cabela's right now because it is on SALE for anyone. It is a great deal!! You can also find this deal at http://www.cabelas.com/.
I suggest this hat for any person on your holiday list that fishes in cold weather. I am pretty excited about the possible opportunity of ice fishing this year, and I will definitely be taking this hat along.
Another really exciting thing about this hat (for us girls anyways) is that it has a chin clasp. If you girls are like me and SOOOOO tired of always having to wear your hair in a ponytail or knot under your stocking cap, this hat is for you. The chin clasp and long ear flaps help to keep the wind, water, and other elements away from your hair. It keeps the hair close to your head and minimizes tangling and mess when you reach over the boat or ice to haul in that super monster fish. It really is a great find!!!
I am totally loving this new hat, and I can't wait until my next trip to try it out. I am seriously considering just wearing it over to wal-mart to grocery shop in a few minutes...that is how excited I am...LOL!!!!
Hope your Monday is going well ~
Happy Holidays ~

The Big Day...

Tonight is the sale at Cabela's. The one I have been waiting for...I have been flipping through the pages of the catalog endlessly, and boy, do I have a list. I decided to go ahead and buy myself one small thing from my list. (YAY!!!) Besides that though, the rest are gifts for family members. It is such a great time to buy Christmas presents that I am certain I will be wrapping lovely little Cabela's goodies way into the night!!
As I sit here drinking my morning coffee, I am trying to decide whether to purchase my little "lizzy present" in black or grey nylon or perhaps I should get the natural or hickory colored leather, deerskin lined one. For me...I am buying myself a "Mad Bomber rabbit fur hat"!!!! They are so incredibly cute...and although for men, usually, I think they will be just the thing to keep my little girlie ears warm on those cold, snowy fishing days up North. PLUS...if I do get to go out on the ice this year for a little ice fishing...this will be perfect. Isn't it just the cutest!!

So...the choice will have to be made once I get there...but right now, I am leaning towards the black because it matches my pink rain gear. You know, when you are out in the woods and pulling in that trophy MONSTER fish...it is important to know that your hat and rain gear match...LOL :) ~~~ It's the little things in life really...

I am so happy to be a part of this little Cabela's sale. Seriously...I am stoked to get to go and have food and drink a beer and try on furry little hats all at the same time...well maybe not the food at the same time...but definitely the BEER~~~ Don't wanna get chicken sauce on my new hat, ya know! I am one excited fisherbabe...FOR SURE!!!

In other outdoorsy type news, this little blog of mine was mentioned over on www.thefishingwire.com. Thanks again Mr. Clemons for thinking that "I'm a keeper." Things like that mean a lot coming from people like you!!!

ALSO...very important...my great friend WOLFY over at www.wolfwaters.blogspot.com is having the first of his THREE holiday season give-aways, and it's a doozy. He has put together a nice little fly-fishing package for one lucky reader. I suggest every single one of you head over there and leave him the required comment...and then, of course, stick around and read his blog. He is such a great guy and his blog is really a good one that you will all enjoy!!!

This has been a joyous little weekend for me with the mention on "The Fishing Wire" and the little sale at Cabelas...PLUS, my beloved HUSKERS cinched the Big 12 North Championship last night with a win against K-State...what a game!! What a weekend...I will make sure that I let you know how great the sale was and maybe take a few pictures while I am there!! I just love Cabela's and the holiday season!!

Now...have a great day and GO! GO! GO! try and win free stuff at Wolfy's blog!!!

Happy Sunday~~

Dear Santa...

How are you? How is Mrs. Claus...and the elves? I have been a very good girl this year and hope that you will come visit me on Christmas Eve this year. Lots of things have happened this year...like I started this really awesome fishing blog called "From The Fisherbabe" and have met some really awesome people. I really hope that you visit them, too!!! They are all only a little naughty and are all really mostly nice ;)
Lots of other things have happened to me this year, as well. For example, today I was mentioned on http://www.thefishingwire.com/ and I "facebook met" Alan Clemons. He is a super nice guy!!! Also, I broke my freshwater fish record with a 25 pound Lake Trout at Mackay Lake this year!!!! I also broke my Pike record with quite a few 43.5 inch Pike, as well!!! I hope that next year I get to tell you that I broke those records AGAIN!!! That is one thing I wouldn't mind happening to me year after year...(you know...in case you have an "in" with Mother Nature)!!
Anyways...back to my list :) I have really been doing some thinking about what I want this year, and I think it would be great if you could get me a show on WFN. I hear you have connections over there and that would just be the most awesome present ever!!! If that isn't possible...then a deal with Cabela's that includes all the Orange Hammers I could ever want would be okay too!!! Oh yeah...and could you tell Plano Molding Company to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the 8505...or at least any hip roof box that includes more than 4 trays????? (Thx on that!!)
If none of those things are possible, here is a list of a couple of other things that I would like:
1. Pomegranate Colored Under Armour
2.The North Face Denali Jacket in Aurora Pink Heather
3.Mad Bomber Hat in Natural or Hickory
4.Gore Tex Guide Tech Bibs in Red/Light Onyx
5. SmartWool Socks...and LOTS of them!!!
6.Under Armour coldgear Hitch Socks
7. Cabela's Winter Sport Boots in White/Pink (of course!!)
8. Keen Women's Betty Boot in Madder Brown (and yes Santa...I need 2 pairs of boots!!)
9. A Plano Molding Company anything...I like whatever you can bring me from there...but maybe especially a new rod case (UGH...I have to share the hubbys...I think I need my own...in PINK)...
10. Pretty much anything on page 291 in the Cabelas Christmas Catalog...
11. Anything in any fishing catalog that Cabelas has put out since the start of the company...
I hope that I have not asked for too much, Santa. If you can't bring me any of the above things then World Peace would be nice ;) or maybe you could just grant all my awesome friends all the huge fish they could possibly want this next year...that would be cool, too...although I would totally take the show on WFN over any of this...(sorry guys...and world :) LOL!!!)
Thanks Santa...you know...in advance for whatever you bring me...I am sure the year to come will be full of great friends and great blessings even if I don't receive a single present (but seriously...the lifetime supply of orange hammers would be awesome...oh yeah and the Rod Case from Plano!!)... ;)
Lots of Love ~

Santa Baby...I've Been An Awfully Good Girl... ;)

I am still pouring over my Cabela's Catalog that I got yesterday...they really have some great deals in this years catalog. I have been pleasantly suprised. Of course, this only makes me more excited for the super duper discount party on Sunday night. My hubby keeps telling me to calm down and that I can't buy anything for me...buuuut I am pretty sure I can talk him into just a little present for myself...
like maybe another Shimano Cardiff 200A??? I really love this reel...it is a great price for great quality!!! I also have the 400A which I personally do not enjoy using as much, because it is bigger and harder for my girlie hands to handle...however, you need the 400A for trout fishing up in the North like we did this fall...soooo maybe I should ask for one of those...TOO!!!!! :) Plus, it is also a super awesome reel...great price and great quality.
I have to admit when I first started reading the catalog I was not expecting to find a million things I wanted. But by the last page I was like this!!! -------------->
My eyes were full of lures, reels, rods, rainwear, boots, and overcoats that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Not to mention all the cute clothes and hats and scarves and...EVERYTHING!!!
I am soooooooo excited to go to the sale!!! YAY CABELAS!!!
I am still working on my list for Santa...no worries...I will share it when I am done!!! I hope you guys are having as much fun with your Christmas catalogs as I am with mine!!!!
Happy Catalog Perusing ~

What A Great Feeling It Is...

to know that there are really amazing, really kind, and really FABULOUS people in the world. In case you do not recall, a few weeks ago I ran a contest called "A Fishy Tale" in honor of reaching 10,000 visitors here on my blog. You guys all posted your SUPER AWESOME fishy stories, and http://www.random.org/ randomly selected a winner...who turned out to be InBassAngler (aka Derek).
After winning, Derek asked me to donate the majority of his prize to a local charity of my choice, and I came to you guys asking for suggestions. You gave me great feedback, and today I donated Derek's prize to the Big Brother/Big Sister Program here in Lincoln!!!
Last week, I called up the program and spoke to a super sweet lady named Melinda. She sent out some emails asking for any pair of big/little's that enjoyed outdoor time/fishing together, and got a great response!!!
This afternoon, I donated Derek's prize to Big Brother Kyle and Little Brother Paul who I am certain will put the products to good use...and as it turned out, Kyle is a tournament angler himself!!!
The Big Brother/Big Sister Program does such FABULOUS things for both the youth as "littles" and for the adults as "Bigs". It really made me happy to be able to give these guys some really great products from really great company's!!! Thank you all so much for your suggestions and for participating in the contest. Thank you even more for reading my blog and for being such great outdoor friends!!! Happy Fishing ~ LIZZY aka The Fisherbabe
