YAY...Its Gonna Be The Best Trip EVER!!!

GOOD NEWS...We are leaving tomorrow to head out on our big trip to Canada. Lake Waskiaowaka is still frozen solid. The last time we heard there was still 24 inches of ice out there. That is A LOT. A CRAZY LOT.

Luckily, however, we found another lake to fish on and this could turn out to be the BEST fishing adventure of my life!!! I am so excited. We have decided to travel to a different lake and WOW is it gonna be awesome. Now...the first week in June of last year, there were about 27 Master Anglerson this new lake. For those of you who do not know what that means...its a Pike over 41 inches long. Since we will be the only people on this lake for this whole week...I am extremely excited at the prospects.

There are some set backs for this princess, however. There is no running water and I am

pretty damn sure the outhouse is not painted pink. However, I think that I can go without a shower for a week if it means that i am pulling some monsters out of that Lake.

I am very excited about this lake. There will be no wireless so you will all have to wait to see my photos of giant fish. :)

I JUST NEED A LITTLE CRACK...

LOL - Get your minds out of the gutter. I don't need THAT kind of crack. All I want is a little crack on Lake Waskiaowaka. If we can just get a crack on it and maybe some thinning then maybe it will warm up enough and the wind will blow enough to blow all that ice off and we can go.

I know its a long shot...but this is a great lake and I really want to go. We have a couple of other options but I don't know much about those lakes because most of my research has gone into Waskiaowaka.

Last night, I got out the Travel Manitoba book and looked at the Master Anglers Awards from last year. I wanted to check out how many came from other lakes in the area, but all I could see was the HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS that came out of Waskiowaka...

Therefore....I really, really need a little crack ~

So...the guys from the camp we were heading to next week just called and said that the ice is not off yet :( OMG...seriously guys...last year this happened too. We actually booked our camp on the way up to Canada because the one we booked a year in advance was not ready because of ice. I am not happy with ice in Canada right now. The good news is we have one or two other options...but please...I beg of you all...pray to whatever God you pray to that the ice will be off Lake Waskiaowaka by Saturday of next week :( I am an UNHAPPY fisherbabe right now... I have created a video documenting my husband's recent trip to Northwest Territories. Now...as much as I would like to do so, I cannot tell you the lodge he was visiting...its one of those Lay Family Secrets. The lures are one thing...This special camp is another. I am certain that my revealing it would end up in at the least the silent treatment...and at the most D-I-V-O-R-C-E!! You know how those men can be about their best secret spots...LOL!!! I Am Completely Offended and Frustrated...

by the fact that there are no cool and interesting clothes for women who fish. I have been searching and searching for weeks trying to find some waterproof pants that would be good for fishing and have good mobility and stretch without making me look like an enormous puffy man. My question is always why can't they make a good quality "ski or board" type pant for us fisherbabes out there? I mean something that lets our men know that they have an actual woman in the boat with them and not just their old fishing buddy Bob? Now I love ski and board type pants for fishing for several reasons. First of all, the have a nice amount of pockets on them that zip or fasten. This is important for us ladies because we like to keep things like chapstick and a compact mirror handy and within easy grabbing reach. And...besides our own things...we have to keep chapstick, sunscreen, and other small items for our guys who think they won't need them but by the middle of the day are begging for just a swipe of your pink tinted chapstick. This means you carry two types of chapstick to save him the embarrassment of wearing lip gloss in all his pictures with his 50 inch fish!! Secondly, ski or board type pants have a great fit for women. They cup and enhance and show off our good bits and hide the wobbly ones. They have a great line straight from the hip to shoe which ensures that any body type looks very chic. Also, they are usually a bit higher waisted which ensures a nice showing off of the booty area and less showing off of the usually a problem tummy area. Thirdly, this pant is waterproof AND warm all on its own. Usually just one thin base layer is good enough to keep you plenty warm while moving down those slopes. This means that you do not have three pairs of jeans and a pair of hikers underneath your rain pants. Believe me...I look much slimmer and much hotter in my ski pants that my 8 pairs of base layers and Cabelas Khakis underneath my thick gore-tex rain pants...why can't we just get an all in one style so we don't all look like elephants. I mean...elephants are cute...but they aren't sexy!!! Another good thing about this type of pant is that they are usually made of some sort of waterproof, yet stretchy material. Which means your man gets to appreciate the tight butt while you are still able to move around and be totally comfortable. They are sexy and comfortable...which almost never happens in fashion as is proven by the lovely but torturous stiletto heel. This "sexy yet comfy" combo never occurs with outdoorsy type clothing. The final and most important reason I think there needs to be this type of pant made for us fisherbabes is because the pants are the most important part of the fishing outfit. Yes...I said outfit!! Girls are girls regardless of whether they are dressed up in fancy lace lingerie or hitting the lake with her boys. I think a sexy girl should be able to feel like her sexy self no matter the setting she is in. It is my personal belief that more women do not fish because of the nasty crap that goes into it like the gross over sized clothing that you are expected to wear. Now... I am sorry, but if I have to mess with fish guts and blood...I wanna look freakin fabulous while I'm doing it... And this is why I am frustrated by my lack of great fishing fashion. You boys look so super sexy in your tight jeans and sexy rain gear...with your baseball caps on and your sunglasses and us girls just look like a big blob of coveralls and over sized boots. I guess I will keep searching...maybe I should design my own line of fabulous yet perfectly suitable fishing fashion for women...hmmmmmmmm... Happy Shopping... LIZZY aka The Fisherbabe

In Honor Of My Upcoming Trip...

I searched the masses of Pike Fishing Videos on YouTube trying to find the one that shows Northern Pike at their most beautiful. These fish are vicious and aggressive when stalking their prey and have intense focus when on the hunt. A blonde wanted to go ice-fishing. She'd seen many books on the subject, and finally, after getting all the necessary "tools" together, she made for the nearest frozen lake. After positioning her comfy foot-stool, she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly ---from the sky--- a voice boomed, "THERE ARE NO FISH THERE!" Startled, the Blonde moved further down the ice, poured a Thermos of cappuccino, began to cut yet another hole. Again, from the heavens, the voice bellowed, "THERE ARE NO FISH THERE!" The Blonde, now quite worried, moved way down to the opposite end of the ice, sat up her stool, and tried again to cut her hole. The voice came once more: "THERE ARE NO FISH THERE!" New Look...

Hi People... First of all, I would like to say a big THANKS to the amazing photographer Glen for my new photo for the header of my blog. He did a great job!! Also, thanks guys for posting so many comments to my last post. I appreciate all the suggestions and feedback and CANNOT WAIT to try out some of the tips and tackle that you guys gave. I can't wait to post about them either!!! Also, I wanted to mention that my blog has passed a bit of a milestone. It has seen 1500 readers from all over the world. SUGGESTIONS NEEDED...

Hey Everyone... So, per last post, I am heading off to Canada in three weeks...yes THREE WEEKS...for some majorly awesome pike fishing. These fish are aggressive and fiesty, but they are also very beautiful with distictive colorations and eating patterns. Pike move with the water temperature and so we will be looking for bends in the lake filled with shallow weed beds. As I am thinking about my trip and all the stuff that needs to be done before we leave, the thing of most importance on my mind is my tackle box and gear. It is time to clean out the box and take some stuff that I know won't work out and put in more hammers and generics... :) I am interested in trying out some new lures while I am out there. I know that 99% of the time I WILL NOT take my hammer off my line. This lure is MADNESS when PIKE FISHING!!! I SWEAR!!! But...I would like to experiment with some of your favorite lures for Pike Fishing. I will post about my catches when I get back and so you can get a real review of your favorite lures and how well they did in the waters of Canada. So leave me comments about your favorite lures and make sure you give me the names, brands, and colors that work. 3 WEEKS AND COUNTING...

I know it has been a while...and I have no excuse. But in 3 WEEKS...yes people 3 WEEKS...I am heading to Canada for my first big fishing trip of the year!! My husband, father-in-law, sister-in-law, and myself are heading up to Manitoba to fish for some BIG, MEAN northern pike. Last year, my husband caught the biggest fish and it was in the 42-43 inch range. However, this year, I am primed to kick his a**...all in good fun, of course!! :) Each trip, we have beads for the person who catches the biggest fish of the trip. We pass them around as each of us catches a bigger fish than the last. It is quite an exciting tradition!!! This year I am super excited to win those beads...I haven't before and I can feel it...this is MY year!! I usually start packing a couple of weeks before the trip to ensure that I do not forget anything important. We fly in to the lodge and so if we forget it...TOO BAD. That sucks...let me tell you. Last year, one of our members forgot his jeans...we laughed but it sucked :) This year we are starting our fishing trip season at Lake Waskiaowaka with the fine folks at Dunlops Fly-In Fishing Lodge. You all can expect a great review upon my return. If they have internet...I will blog a few times if I can.
